Wireless info
This is a message concerning wireless technology I just posted to a mailing list I am a member of, thought most of you would enjoy.
Check out Personal Telco.
They are making their own hot-spots like T-Mobile and such. They even off the same type of software T-Mobile and Hotels use, you can make people click an “I agree” page or such before network access it turned on. You can filter traffic and bottle the speeds. It also allows groups so you can give your friends user/pass to login and they have no cap on bandwidth, while any one off the street has a cap. (And you can have an owner user/pass with full rights.)
It is a great project, and I hope with the technology becoming cheap, and people understanding it better, some real cool solutions can arise.
If you want to learn more, start by watching Seattle Wireless’s show with the creator of NoCat and the Cantenna.

I am discussing with 2 of my friends to make some cantenna’s and setup 2, 1-mile connections between our homes. One part of the fun of such a network we were discussing is playing your XBox over the connection, as you do during a LAN game… Ok, I don’t have a gaming console, but if I did…
