Bug Update
Tuesday, November 29th, 2005So I didn’t tell you all about buying my motor wednesday. I bought it, and took it right over to Rando’s and we tore it apart. Cylinder 1 has a valve with a chip in it. I think wednesday we are going to take it down to the machine shop and have them fix up the heads.
Bug engine in the bug is not doing well. Today, of the 5 times I tried to start it, it cranked and cranked… I had to use a new technique I think Mr Ford may have used before he figured out he could use a metal bar as a crank. It’s called Hill Cranking, you wrestle your car facing downhill, be careful, it may want to go down the hill. Now, let the car get rolling, put it in second… ease the clutch out… now let the hill crank the engine, give it a little gas, just like your using the starter… SPUDDER SPUDDER, 1 cylinder, SPUDDER SPUD SPUD PUT POUT PUTP UTP, 2 cylinders… SPUDDDDDD SPUDDD… ease the clutch back in. Make sure the engine can keep turing under it’s own power. If so, pull over off the road, give her some gas and let her warm up.
I think tomorrow I’ll just drive the van, figure things out and get the motor I”m working on in her.
Was working on my Physics homework before I call it quits for the night. Thought I’d share this message board post from my Prof helping a kid with another fun physics equation. (Photo added to better tell story, courteous to google images…)
