Sad Day, no bicycle ride

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Today I was going to depart at noon to head to my aunts in Lafayette. Get there around 2 PM, shower off, and be 40 minutes early for 3 PM dinner. GPS is loaded with the waypoints for the route, iPod nano loaded up. I open up the calendar, 1 PM Thanksgiving fooding. *deep breath* Another day I lose. This whole sun going down at like 3 PM doesn’t motivate me to ride home either. Sad day.

Now I don’t have a reason not to dress fancy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Vegan Menu
Friday night I had a great adventure with Brendan and Alex. We rode from Golden to downtown denver, leaving around 8:30 and stopped for dinner. Somehow we ended up at a vegan place. Brendan may or may not be a vegan… I’ll try whatever.

This menu killed me! I was going to take a picture, but I didn’t want to make a bigger scene with a flash, but I think I got one decent picture showing a few selections on the menu. (I made Alex carry my camera in his bag, and I’m yet to pick it back up from him, so you’ll have to wait on the photo.) I skim through the menu, uh nothing I was looking for. This time I look through it, reading the descriptions, perhaps something is hidden. Tacos, lettuce, tomato, guacamole. Um, your forgetting something, that’s not a taco. I ended up with some pasta, but there was more artichoke hearts (blah) and mushrooms (*curls up nose*) then actual noodles. Let’s just say it was slow ride home for me.

Yesterday (Saturday) I had a great day of skiing, I went up with three other guys, but we ended up meeting up with all of the Korean’s from CSM. I ran into a couple people I knew, which I think it’s always funny to run into people places. For lunch the Korean’s invited us to join them. Awesome! Talk about adventures in eating, I continued the ‘try something new’ theme into my ski day. It was pretty sweet as they prepared a big lunch as a group, (there were prob 8 of em.) They let us join in, I had some sushi stuff that was pretty good, and mostly tasted like rice. I also had this ’stick’ type item, sorta spring roll thickness, but not a deep fried shell, longer than a spring roll too. I had no idea what it was, they were enjoying it so I had one, I ate most but not all of one. I never did find out what it was.

Saturday night Lance joined me for dinner, I found a delicious burger to cure me from my bad adventures in food. So, don’t worry, I’m back on top. I enjoyed my trying something new, but I also enjoyed that hamburger, a lot.

I’m laughing

Boulder Grand Prix of Cyclo-Cross

Brady Kappius

Here’s a picture of Brady Kappius at this last Sunday’s Boulder Grand Prix of Cyclo-Cross. I went to the race to watch with Brendan, Alex, and Topher.
I took some photos for you, check out my photo set of the event.

I am in a hurry so no commentary from me, but here’s a great write up of the event from Brendan’s blog:

Today I went up to boulder and watched some really phenomenal cyclists perform spectacular feats of athleticism. That comment’s a bit enigmatic. What I did, specifically, was go watch the United States Grand Prix of Cyclocross which is one of the biggest cyclocross events in the nation. Every big name in the sport is there and from what I can gather it is about sixty minutes of the most intense pain imaginable. The hills are short but steep. There’s a sand box where riders futilely attempt to deliver power to their wheels and expend what I can only imagine is a lot of power only to have to put the throttle back on in a big way as soon as they hit the dirt again. There are 40cm tall obstacles that you can take your chances on trying to bunny hop over or dismount and jump over it carrying your bike on your shoulder or at your side. Oh yeah, and then there’s the pain, did I mention the pain? Watching these athletes today was inspiring, I’m thinking about next season again now and that’s a good thing.
