Life is Adventure (Bug -Season 3 Episode 3)

I (thought I) had the bug fixed last week to driving state, got a control arm replaced with some new berings. Had 3 wheels repaired, I was back on the road. Today I was getting around town, drove to the bike shop, school, and was getting ready to get on 6th ave (55 mph) and as I pulled up to the intersection I heard a clicking noise from the back. I just went through the intersection and pulled into a neighborhood to figure out what the noise is. I poked around with it for a while, and decided I should just get it home (about 1 mile away.) I do a U-Turn then the click becomes a clunk and the car won’t go forward, permi-neutral. I’ll spare you all the details. She at least was nice about where she gave up. Talked to the shop I had do the last repairs on it, and his buddy who worked for a tow company picked it up for me tonight. I’ll hopefully hear some bad news tomorrow.

Now four months ago someone left me a note on my windshield. “Hey, do you want to buy another straight VW-Bug call…” I kept the note around, but never called, it disappeared into my room. Well Sunday I cleaned my room and found the note- I gave the number a call tonight. Guy lives by Idaho Springs, but happened to be in town, I meet him at 9 o’clock PM, within a hour of talking to him. I gotta do some research, but I really liked the car and the owner. It’ll take some work, but this bug is really straight. No cancer (rust), no dents, the engine deck was cleaner than mine (and I rebuilt and cleaned mine just a year ago!) It is an autostick, but supposedly it runs, and sometimes works. You guys may be going, “you want to buy a car that doesn’t work?”, but I’m thinking “if it works sometimes, only one part should really be bad.” It’s a 1968, and my baby is a ‘69 so some sharing could even happen.

I’ll keep you up on the adventure.

My car is having problems as well:(

Get the 68! If nothing else, swap your good engine into the 68 with a not so good engine.

Let me know if you want to do that and want help. I’ll borrow my friend’s lift, and we can swap the engines around.

Thanks Mike. I think I will give the guy a call tomorrow and see if he’s still up for it. I think drop a decent amount to get her going good, then a nice paint job and it’d be a pretty killer ride that might even be worth more than I put in…

Thanks! Now if you could help me figure out this Engineering econ so I could go to bed. =-/
