Web Apps

Hellyski asked what iPhone WebApps I use. Figured I’d share with the rest of you.

Toodledo
toodledo.com/slim
This is the tool I use for todo lists. I keep everything on here. I really wish iCal todo’s would sync well to the iPhone, but toodledo fills the void pretty well. Their iPhone interface is smooth and responsive.

Newsgator
m.newsgator.com
I use newsgator as my RSS reader. It syncs with NetNewsWire on my Mac, has a web client, and an iPhone web client. I was using google reader for a while, but it killed me that when using the iPhone interface for Google Reader, if you clicked the read more it would take you to a ‘mobilized’ version of the page. When I am clicking the read more button I am usually doing it because the content isn’t displayed well in the RSS feed so I REALLY do want the full page.

Twitter
m.twitter.com
I use the mobile page on the iPhone. It weighs in at 4.4KB, meaning it loads nearly instantly over EDGE. I have tried the iPhone specific twitter clients, but they all seem to be around 200KB, and offer no gain in functionality.

Facebook
iPhone.facebook.com
I think enough has been said about the iPhone version. Great job on the searching, I love being able to pull up contact details on the fly.

Weather Underground
i.wund.com
This is where I go for weather on the desktop, as well as on the phone. It beats the others on the desktop, because they offer the forecast for wind and temperature by the hour. This is VERY helpful for planning bike and sailboat outings.

JiveTalk
iPhone.beejive.com
Great for IM on the iPhone. Supports multiple networks, and aliases correctly. (So I see a persons name, instead of the username.)

Google News
news.google.com
The page is light weight, I use it on the iPhone even over EDGE. I have really been digging the new local sections you can add.

Getting things done, late.

When you need to get something done, and it’s already late try this little trick of mine.

The magic is to not know what time it is. You espeically don’t want to know what time you finished and went to bed at.

To pull this off, set your alarm clock for your wake up before you even start the project. Remove the clock on the computer as your working on it. (On a mac, hold down cmd as you drag the clock out of the menu bar. The Date & Time preference pane will help you put it back in the morning.)

Now just get your work done, and crawl into bed.
