Camping, and a Friday

Kory, Matt Matteson, Tanner

Summer is, as always, flying past. I love it! The picture above is from Camping with Kory and Tanner. That is Tanner’s Jeep, named Oprah, which before the weekend hadn’t left the pavement. Now Oprah is a real jeep, broken in by the trails near Guanella Pass near George Town. See all the camping pictures.

I’m digging my choice of not accepting a real internship this summer. Friday is a great example of WHY I can’t get excited about a 9-5. I woke up around 10:30, read and worked until around 12:15. Phil asks if I want to join him for lunch. A few calls later I’ve got 4 others in my car as we head to meet Phil and Ryan at Tokyo Joe’s for the $5 lunch special. Lance and Matt peel off, as Phil, Davy, Pat and I head to the theater to watch Wall-E. The movie was a good laugh, and I loved the hints of 2001 A Space Odyssey. Rolling out of the theatre we stop in the Yard House for happy hour. Leaving happy and full I’m back at my house with Lance and Phil. Lance had declined the Yard House offer so he was looking for some food a bit later. 12:30 am after a stop by Safeway, the Liquor store, the back porch with tasty brat, the living room couches, it was a good time to call it a night. I’d say it was a good Lunch.

(In all fairness to a 9-5; I did spend more than I made Friday, but, that’s not true for the overall week and the whole week was this good.)

Friday Already?

Vespa 150, San Francisco

The week at WWDC in San Francisco has been great. I ended up finding a great couch to crash on at Jonathan’s. (Jon was a friend of a friend of a friend when I first showed up at his door Sunday night.) It’s just off the Muni making it super easy to get into town each day; about a 25 minute ride.

Yesterday on the Muni I seated reading a book, and I hear “Mariah Carey?” I look up to see the a black, large, Muni security officer who asked the question. At the end of my seat is a suite, about 35 years old with his white iPod head phones in. The suite’s face turns red and admits “I guess it was a little loud.” We all had a good laugh. I wish he was singing along and I would have recorded it for you guys.

The photo here is from my new Canon PowerShot SD870 IS I picked up the night before heading out to CA. I did a quick photo walk around Coit Tower on the way to an Apple Campus Rep dinner.

I’m headed south on the Cal Train today to meet with Say Now in Palo Alto, then flight leaves SFO at 8 PM. Jon works at Say Now, I’m not sure what agenda I have for visiting them.

San Francisco, WWDC ‘08 and Homeless

Welcome to the 8th hour of being homeless in San Francisco!

WWDC 08
I’m in town for the Apple World Wide Developer Conference. The humor of it is that I currently don’t have a place to stay. The hostel I have stayed at the last three times I’ve been in San Francisco is full. I haven’t heard back from my friend who I thought I might be able to join.

The conference opens with a keynote from the one and only Steve Jobs at 10 AM. The seating is limited and first come first serve. I mention because people always line up real early to get in. I might go join the crazy, and sleep in line. I have also considered heading back to the airport, it seems like you can sleep in airports with bags and not get in trouble.

Turman’s idea of a 24 hour fitness sounds pretty good too. Sign up and make use of the 7 day trial membership; showers, lockers, mats I could fall asleep on…

Note that if I find a bed, I’m going to take the offer of sleep.

Alright, watch here, twitter and bright kite updates on the right, and my flickr stream.
